Better than a “home from home”….

Chatting to a friend the other day, he remarked that when he goes to a restaurant or on holiday, he always looks for something better than home. I couldn’t agree more. When I go on holiday, I want an upgrade on my own house. So tents and caravans are a definite no. What is the point of paying money to give up all my home comforts, just to rough it? The whole point of a holiday is somewhere that offers me what I can’t have at home. I don’t just want a place that is home from home – I want better than home.At Best of Wales, we are constantly receiving comments about how our holiday cottages are better than home from home. I have just spent a few days away in one of them  – Wye Valley Retreat – a modern, stylish and comfortable holiday home in a beautiful location on the banks of the River Wye in Mid Wales. It is just like stepping into the pages of a glossy magazine. It has been designed to include all the luxurious touches that I don’t have at home (and I love my home!): under floor heating, super king size beds, jacuzzi bath, home cinema surround system, bi-fold doors the whole width of the house, a fabulous, well equipped kitchen. It wasn’t really warm enough to open up the doors on to the decking, but we opened them anyway. It wasn’t cold enough indoors to turn on the stunning pillar box gas fire but we switched it on anyway. The complimentary welcome pack, left for us by the owners, included cake, bread and marmalade, all homemade and delicious. Within minutes of arriving, we were sitting in the sunshine, drinking tea, eating cake and relaxing. And what is more, the surrounding area is a hidden gem, especially the Elan Valley.
